Interesting facts about Uzbekistan

  1. Uzbekistan is a Central Asian nation and former Soviet republic.
  2. It is borderedby Kazakhstan to the north, Tajikistan to the southeast, Kyrgyzstan to the northeast, Afghanistan to the south and Turkmenistan to the southwest.
  3. The official languageis Uzbek, many citizens speak Russian as well.
  4. As of 1 January 2017, the populationof Uzbekistan was estimated to be 30,575,817 people.
  5. It is the 56th largest country in the world by areawith 447,400 square kilometers (172,700 square miles).
  6. Tashkent is the capital and largest city of Uzbekistan. It’s known for its many museums and its mix of modern and Soviet-era architecture.
  7. Uzbekistan is one of two doubly landlocked countries in the world(that is, a country completely surrounded by landlocked countries), the other being Liechtenstein.
  8. The highest pointin Uzbekistan is the Khazret Sultan, at 4,643 meters (15,233 feet) above sea level.
  9. You can’t shake a man’s hand with a left hand. Also, your handshake must be firm.
  10. Parents, when they grow old, live with the youngest son of the family. Rest of the kids will get married and move out to a new place, which, of course, is built or purchased by a father.
  11. We respect the elderly. Uzbek will never insult or even shout to his parents.

  13. The country had great scientists and scholars hundreds of years ago. Will list few of them:
  14. i) Ibn Sina, a polymath, his famous works are The Book of Healing and The Canon of Medicine which were used as a text-book in european universities as late as 1650.
  15. ii) Al Khwarizmi was a mathematician, astronomer and geographer. The term Algorithm and Algebra are derived from his name which shows his important contributions to mathematics.

iii) Al Biruni was a historian, chronologist and linguist. He was known as the first anthropologist and father of geodesy for his contributions to geography. There is also a crater in the moon named after him (who would have thought)

  1. Arranged marriges are still common.
  2. Sayilgokh Street, known locally as ‘Broadway’, has some street artists and painters, who display their original artworks. There are many shopping centers, fashion shops, boutiques, restaurants, and cafes are located on and around the Broadway in Tashkent. Here you may also pick up some handmade crafts and bric-a-bracs.
  3. Located in the north of Tashkent, close to the Tashkent TV Towers, Aqua Park is the largest swimming area in Tashkent. Japanese Garden in Tashkent is a small park in the center of the city with a nature of distant island countries, where the admiration of the beauties of nature is one of the essential components of life. Here, natural beauty is skilfully emphasized by the artistic-expressive means of Japanese landscape art.
